Heads up, Chattanooga: did you know America’s largest volume Honda powersports dealership lives right here in your backyard?

That’s right: Southern Honda Powersports keeps over 2,000 machines in stock year round. That’s over 2,000 cruisers, crotch rockets, dirt bikes, scooters, ATVs and PWCs in our gargantuan 100,000 square foot showroom.

I said ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND SQUARE FEET. That’s 2.2 acres of awesome machines under one roof, just begging to carve up curves, tear up trails and blast over waves.

Massive inventory, awesome prices and unbeatable customer service is what we’re all about. That’s why we’ve sold 42,000 units since 2004, and honestly, we’re just getting started.

In addition to the entire line of Honda dirt bikes, street bikes, ATVs and personal watercraft, we also feature a gigantic selection of parts, gifts, clothing and accessories from brands like Fox, Shoei, OGIO and Two Brothers Racing.

Powersports dealers have traditionally been family-owned affairs with extremely local scope. During the late-1980s—coinciding with the incredible growth of big-box retail—a few powersports dealers around the country applied wholesale discount economic models to their businesses. Customer response to the superior variety and price structure offered by these high-volume/low-price dealers was overwhelmingly positive.

The competitive landscape was irrevocably changed: small-town motorcycle dealers were in the difficult position of competing with volume wholesale dealers offering extremely steep discounts. Keen for a new business venture, Kelly Auto Group owner/operator Tim Kelly noticed that the largest and most successful of these new high-volume powersports dealers operated in the Mississippi River basin and lower midwestern United States, and that customers in virtually the entire Eastern time zone had to drive—were indeed willing to drive—several hours to take advantage of the low prices offered by these bigger dealers. Moreover, while the large dealers to the west obviously demonstrated some economic ingenuity, it was doubtful that they could offer the handshakes and hospitality of a small-town family-owned dealership. This situation left customers with an inevitable and unfortunate choice: save thousands of dollars buying from a warehouse full of strangers, or receive great service at a premium price.

In early 2004, with the explicit goal of merging the best aspects of volume discount business with mom-and-pop customer service, Tim Kelly purchased all operating assets of Griffith Cycle on Dodds Avenue in Chattanooga, one of the nation’s oldest Honda powersports dealers. The new company would do business as Southern Honda Powersports. With a substantial initial investment in warehouse space, major unit inventory and operating capital, Southern Honda began advertising amazingly low prices and a promise of eye-level honest business in the greater southeastern United States and eastern seaboard.

Growth was quick and sometimes painful: logistical systems and accounting operations that allowed Griffith Cycle to comfortably sell dozens of units per month proved woefully inadequate to deal with dozens of units per hour on any given day at Southern Honda. Despite the chaos, by the end of its very first year in business, Southern Honda had become the nation’s largest volume Honda powersports dealer, a title it retains to this day. In only six years, Southern Honda has delivered over 40,000 major units to customers from every state.

Southern Honda Powersports promises great powersports products, amazing out-the-door prices and unbeatable customer service. We deliver these promises by developing a superior understanding of the powersports industry, anticipating developments in the economic climate of our market, and cultivating honesty and enthusiasmin our corporate culture.
