Already recognized and honored for its progressive initiatives, Chattanooga is becoming the place where the issue of sustainable growth is given context and definition. We have become if not the best mid-sized city in America at least the one mid-sized city in America where economic growth and job creation are balanced with a sense of responsibility for the future.
Chattanooga’s Economic Vision is Simple In 1996, a group of Chattanoogans came together to develop a vision and strategy for sustainable economic growth in this community. They felt that this vision and its strategies should be simple and compelling, inclusive of and relevant to all Chattanoogans, achievable and durable and honest in addressing all significant issues facing the community.
The words in the vision were selected very carefully - "economic opportunities" because this vision is, first and foremost, about creating jobs and new businesses; "educational opportunities" to recognize that the knowledge and skills of our people are our greatest assets; "all citizens" because we cannot be a successful community without addressing the specific needs of our minorities as well as the broad needs of our majority; "today and tomorrow" to recognize that we must address our immediate concerns while also protecting the opportunities and quality of life of future generations.
