Examples of Duties: Responsible for the protection of life and property through firefighting activities performed under hazardous, emergency conditions which may involve extreme exertion and perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be a high school graduate or possess GED equivalency; be a U.S. citizen; be at least 21 years old and not over 39 years old. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation and be honorably discharged from the U.S. armed forces (if applicable). Must be able to pass a physical abillity test; a post-employment medical examination; a polygraph and possess a valid Class D driver's license. Must not have been convicted of any felony charge; have not pleaded guilty to any felony charge or have not entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge and meet any other standards as set forth in Tennessee Code Annotated.
Supplemental Information: You will be notified by email within two months to take the written test. The written test consists of 80 questions. All answers are found in the study manual provided. Upon passing the written test with at least 50%, you will be notified by email at a later date to take the physical ability test. The next step consists of an administrative panel interview. Further processing will be conducted on candidates who pass these tests and are approved by Fire Administration. Final requirements consist of a comprehensive background investigation and polygraph exam. Fire Administration and the Fire Chief make hiring selections.
The written test is valid for three years and the physical ability test is valid for one year. If either of these tests expires, it is your responsibility to request a retest to keep your application active. You may take the written or physical ability test as many times as you request.
